Dr. Sexton is president of Newberry Pathology Associates, P.A., and has been practicing forensic pathology since 1968.  He obtained his medical license in South Carolina in 1968 as well as through the National Medical Examiners Association.  He is nationally board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and forensic pathology. He was the Charleston County Medical Examiner from 1973 through 1983. Dr. Sexton taught at the medical university for seventeen years in the Department of Pathology and directed the forensic section for eleven of those years, which consulted in forensic pathology for all forty-six county coroners.  He has done over seven thousand forensic autopsies and has supervised an additional eight thousand cases.

Dr. Sexton moved to Newberry, South Carolina in 1983 to become the director of the Newberry County Memorial Hospital’s Laboratory.  At that time he started doing forensic autopsies for approximately thirty of the Dr. Sexton at Microscopeforty-six county coroners.  He has testified over seven hundred times, not including hundreds of depositions, and has performed over one hundred exhumations.  In 1995 the work became too much for one person, so he now usually has three forensic pathologists available to do autopsies and testify in court. All are board certified.

Dr. Sexton is a 1958 graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.A. in chemistry, and a 1964 graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina Graduate School with a master’s degree in chemistry. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1968 and completed his residency at the Medical University in the Pathology Department under Dr. Gordon R. Hennigar.

He and his wife, Lu Lynn, were born in Spartanburg, South Carolina and graduated from Spartanburg High School.  They both achieved the highest awards in scouting and served on the camp staff at scout camps during their summers. They have four children.  Dr. Sexton enjoys coaching and competing in Olympic style pistol shooting and has coached twenty Citadel cadets onto six-four All American Teams.  His college teams and junior team have won many national championships and have set numerous national records.  Dr. Sexton personally holds national records and national titles. He also enjoys hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren.
