Born in Hampton, Virginia, Dr. Garvin attended undergraduate and medical schools at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. Dr. Garvin holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Geography and Chemistry with a minor in Physics. After completing medical school he began his medical residency in anatomic and forensic pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina. He returned to the Medical Examiner's office of Fort Lauderdale, Florida to complete his forensic residency.
While in Florida, Dr. Garvin served as an
associate professor of medicine at the University of Miami Medical
School, as an Associate
Medical Examiner, as a Deputy Chief Medical Examiner, and as Acting
Chief Medical Examiner before returning to South Carolina in 1986 to
assist Dr. Sexton. Since that time he has practiced forensic
pathology with Newberry Pathology Associates. His areas of
forensic interest include domestic violence, water-related deaths,
and accident reconstruction.
Dr. Garvin has performed well over 10,000 autopsies and shares the diversity of his experience with our office daily. In his "downtime," he enjoys sailing, treasure hunting, antiquing, traveling, motorcycling, and cannon-fire.
